Workshops
Who are the workshops intended for?
The workshops are intended for professional and ambitious painters and for artists who wish to engage deeply with materials, painting techniques and their effects on the image. An established artistic practice is helpful.
What will I learn?
Participants do not learn how to paint quinces. The workshops teach the technical foundations of my quince portraits: constructing a classical painting panel, chalk ground, egg tempera, pigments, and working with transparent and opaque layers and glazes.
Which workshops are offered?
Course 1 is titled Painting Panel · Chalk Ground · Emulsion. Course 2 is Tempera Painting · Glazes · Group Critique. They may be booked separately, although their content builds on one another.
How long do they last, and where do they take place?
Each workshop lasts four hours, from 10:00 to 14:00. The venue is Lichtraum West at Haus von Sissi von West, Bebelstraße 37, 70193 Stuttgart.
How large are the groups?
Groups consist of six to eight people. A workshop will not take place if fewer than three participants register.
What do the workshops cost?
One workshop costs €200. Both workshops together cost €350. Materials are an additional €50.
What should I bring?
Please bring work clothes or an apron, a notebook, your own motif or photo reference, and a portfolio suitable for 30 × 40 cm work. Supports, Kozo paper, binders, ground materials, pigments and tools are provided.

Commissioned Portraits and Artworks
Do you accept portrait commissions?
Yes. I regard a commissioned portrait as an independent work of art, not merely a photographic likeness. What matters is the person’s character and presence and a pictorial idea developed through discussion.
How does a portrait commission proceed?
The process begins with a detailed conversation about the person, the desired format and the intended effect. Numerous photographs and initial sketches follow. Together we select a direction for the final portrait, after which the painting process begins.
How long does a commissioned portrait take?
Including preparatory work, a portrait usually takes two to three months; larger or more complex works may take longer.
What does a commissioned portrait cost?
The price depends on format, technique and complexity. Depending on size and execution, commissioned portraits generally range from €4,000 to €12,000. After the initial discussion, you will receive an individual quotation.
Can I request an animal portrait?
Yes. As in a human portrait, the focus is not only on outward likeness but on the animal’s individual presence.
What other commissions do you undertake?
I also have experience with large-scale sculptures, stage design, interior architecture and spatial design. Such projects are developed by arrangement and always retain my artistic signature.
Can I buy or reserve a quince portrait?
Yes. Please enquire about currently available quince portraits, works in progress and prices. Selected works can be viewed in the studio by appointment.
How are the quince portraits made?
The quince portraits are created on carefully prepared painting panels. A classical chalk or marble-powder ground forms the painting surface. The image is built up in egg tempera through many fine transparent and opaque layers.
Studio and Contact
Can I view works in the studio?
Yes. Studio visits are available by appointment and offer an opportunity to view quince portraits and other current works at leisure.

New exhibitions and events are announced under News. On request, I can also add you to the invitation list for future exhibitions and openings.
