The quince painting MUS-07-180180-A-2025, additional quince portraits, “Lucky Hermit” by Müller & Sohn, and other paintings—including some by ditArdo—are on their way to the Paul Löbe House, to the office of Member of Parliament Macit Karaahmetoğlu (SPD).

Four quince portraits now hang in the office of Member of the Bundestag Karaahmetoğlu at the Paul-Löbe-Haus in Berlin.

The smaller 40×40 cm portraits are painted in egg tempera on wooden panels, while the large 180×180 cm quince portrait is painted in acrylic on canvas.

Preparing the wooden panels with a chalk ground is a very labor-intensive process. First, the wooden panel is covered with linen; then, approximately 30 thin layers of chalk ground are applied. The final layers are applied alternately with a brush or palette knife.

The panel is then sanded smooth with pumice.

This creates a textured surface to which the egg tempera adheres exceptionally well. On bare canvas, pure egg tempera would be too brittle; on these painting panels, however, it becomes extremely durable and, with a careful selection of pigments, can last for many centuries without the painting losing its luminosity and radiance.
