Eine alte, prophetisch anmutende Gestalt wird von einem albtraumhaften Gefolge aus historischen Dämonen und zivilisiert gekleideten Bestien bedrängt. Das Bild erscheint als Allegorie auf ein Böses, das nicht verschwindet, sondern in immer neuen und scheinbar respektablen Masken wiederkehrt.
At the centre, an old white-haired figure crouches in a plain brown robe, surrounded by a nightmare gathering of human-animal hybrids, grotesque bodies and historical allusions. A cold green face recalls Adolf Hitler, while reptilian, insect-like and bird-like creatures wear suits and ties.
The figures can be read as exposed forms of human power, greed and violence. The central figure becomes a witness or threatened conscience, encircled by demons of past and present.
